Sites to Ping Your Latest Blog Posts (XML-RPC)

Posted on May 23, 2005

How to get your latest blog and news feeds indexed by the major ping services.

This usually involves entering your news feed url manually or you can notify the ping services automatically by copying the ‘ping configuration code’ into your supporting blog software.

Test each service and check their guidelines. Some require manual pings for the first time and before you can use the automated service as described above.

Important:
Remember that listing too many ping services will dramatically slow down the time it takes to process updates every time you post so don’t too many. The whole notification process should be quick, simple and efficient. Not slow, cumbersome and time consuming.

    Hi Nancy,

Just to let you know that you don’t actually need to be signed up to A2B to add your site using a weblog “ping”. You can find out more here.

However, if you want to search automatically based on an updated position or with a GPS device using our free GPSCookie software or Navio whilst outdoors then you would have to sign up.

    Thanks!

The XML-RPC service on Blogbot.dk is only available to users who have signed up in advance. Other users are blocked. In order to sign up, the blog must be written in Danish and meet certain other criteria. So I don’t think it is appropriate to include in this list without a comment of some sort.

Currently I block several hits to the XML-RPC service per second from people who somehow got the URL of the XML-RPC service and pasted it into their blogging software without checking what it was for. This is consuming quite a lot of resources on my little server.

I’d be happy if you could make a note about this or perhaps completely remove Blogbot.dk from this post.

    Thanks.
