Today I received a personal message from Liz Sherwood regarding the sudden disappearance of many blogs hosted at Blogger.com.

"Do you know if your Blogger blogs are still up?

I wouldn’t say this is a Red alert just yet, but I wanted to give
you a heads up on reports that are starting to come in on Blogger.

Several friends and miners have started seeing their Blogger blogs
not only being dropped from the listings, but pulled from the web
entirely.  As in, here one day and wiped off the face of the Net
the next.  Good thing we keep backups!

One guy lost all 20 of his blogs and several of those were travel
logs - extremely original material.  Google told him that his
content was not Google material, if you can believe that.  If a
travelogue isn’t blog material, then it’s the end of the world as
we know it.

Some other people have their blogs and AdSense account on review
and they are waiting for the fall out.

I’ve taken a good look at their sites.  These were high quality,
content sites.  Not those ugly splogs that are cropping up
everywhere.  We don’t have enough reports to form a complete
pattern and I hope that it stops right here.  But I wanted to give
you a heads up so you could get yourself in position now if your
Blogger blogs get pulled.

So what can you do?  If you are relying on Blogger blogs for your
feeder blogs, then it might be time to start learning WordPress or
some other blog system.  We know how Google cracks down on AdWords,
but if they start attacking the blogs on a regular basis (and I’m
betting that they will due to splogs - spam blogs), then you want
to have a backup so that you don’t lose all your traffic at once.

If you are running splogs on Blogger, then you might want to get
the heck out of Dodge before you lose your AdSense account
entirely.  I wouldn’t recommend setting up shop again either.
Splogs do not add to the beauty of the world and they will only
help you for a limited time.  The search engines are onto them.

Like I said, it’s not time to panic yet, but I’m always telling you
to diversify the ways your get traffic.  If you are relying on
Blogger for your blogs, this could be a very good time to diversify
your blogs as well!

Cheers,
Liz"

It would be prudent to host your blog on your own domains using reliable blogging software such as the WordPress. Especially as Google appear to be less indiscriminate ain their decisions to pull blogs from blogger.com.

You MUST also back up your database for each of your blogs which can be done quickly and efficiently with Skippy’s ‘WordPress Database Backup‘ plugin that will post your back up to your email address. I use this plugin for all my family of blogs and copy the back up file to disc from my Gmail account.

I really love these programmers who provide such valuable rich software for us to use for our blogs. Can’t imagine what I would do without them.
