I use PDF files for all of my ebooks and have many free reports and ebooks. It’s one of the most versatile pieces of software I own that I certainly cannot do without!
Let’s face it PDF’s can be read across most operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux) and can be read on hand-held devices (mobiles, PDA’s) making it the most preferred document format for creating reports, ebooks and similar products. That’s my main reason for purchasing the full version so that my documents can be shared amongst a wider audience than EXE (executable) files which are only compatible with Windows operating systems.
However for those of you who have saved PDF’s and continue to download documents using Adobe Acrobat Reader then you must be aware of the recent critical security patch which must be installed.
Unfortunately there is a security flaw with all versions earlier than version 7 where a hacker can store malicious code within links. Avoid clicking on links from email attachments if you do not know the sender.
I have version 7.0.9 which I downloaded after receiving the automatic updates notification when I open the software. You can sign up for the Adobe’s free security notification service by email.
The above measures apply to free and full version users so should download your free security patches from the Adobe Acrobat web site:
Further information states that if you want to upgrade to the most Adobe Acrobat 8 (27.5MB) then you need to perform a fresh install of the full application.
However the above link to the security patches will suffice.
Note: Double check the minimum requirements before continuing with the download file.
Once you have applied your patches, save and close all of your programs so that you can restart your computer. Only after reboot will the updates take affect.
P.S.
You should always restart your computer after installing software.
