The Inside AdSense team have officially announemeed that Google have completed their acquired DoubleClick. I just read the email announcemnt as below:

“You may have seen today’s announcement that Google has completed its acquisition of DoubleClick. The combined company will offer more tools for publishers, enhance productivity and provide additional revenue opportunities so you can focus on creating more relevant content and improve the user experience on your websites. We will also work with our existing publishers to better monetize their inventory by combining DoubleClick’s and Google’s strength in inventory management, ad serving, and optimization.

If you have a DoubleClick account, rest assured that everything will continue to operate as usual, and that you’ll receive the same support you’re used to. For more information, please read our press release.”

Therefore the speculation and nail biting is finally over. Now it will be interesting to see what Google have in store for the affiliate management service. Are Google now a monopoly having a more than sizeable chunk of the online advertising market or is this just good business?

How To Lose Your Credit Card Affiliate Commissions!

Looks like a lot of credit card affiliate program managers are paying out more in affiliate commissions than they are making themselves!

Why do I say this?

Well if you’re an active affiliate for any of the major credit card companies you will find that they have been cracking down on the KEYWORDS used in advertising. I personally believe the problem is that WE AFFILIATES are making good commissions and not just because of trademark or copyright issues.

I received an update from my credit card affiliate program administrative department with the following:

…Please comply with this request immediately as we will be conducting audits in the coming days of our entire network. Non-compliance will result in withheld commissions.”

Sincerely,
The MakeMoneyWithCreditCards Team

The credit card industry is forever growing billion dollar industry and there are NO SIGNS of slowing down.

I can understand and feel it is reasonable to be prohibited from using the credit card companies domain name and even using a brand name before the words “credit card” is prohibited!

Well at least we can STILL use those two KEYWORDS, better not say that too loud, or else.

Being the owner of a membership site that gives practical information about securing the best 3rd party merchant accounts with many credible PayPal alternatives. I strongly emphasize how IMPORTANT it is to ensure that you keep well informed of all agreements and program policies so that you DO NOT breach your contractual agreement. This could lose your relationship with the company and worse still forfeit your entire earnings.

This is also the case with many credit card affiliate programs who many affiliates feel they are making it more difficult for affiliates to sustain their present referral income as they have to rethink and restructure their PPC marketing campaigns.

One way around this is to write articles with compelling content and a like back to your affiliate web site or a squeeze page so that you have way to follow up with potential customers. Again be very careful of the words you use in the body of your article.

If there is anything you are unsure of contact your affiliate manger and get it APPROVED first. Better to be well informed and maintain your affiliate status than to stand to lose all of your hard earned cash.

Updates On Auction Ads, Ebay Tracking And Web 2.0

After the much talked about problems with Ebay’s tracking system I have been able to get my reporting up for Auction Ads.

Now I cannot say whether the figures are truly accurate because I have not been using them for a very short space of time. So I have no way to compare previous results.

Anyway they are back in business and I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on my commissions.

I was reading Aaron Wall’s post today as I was writing up this post as he documents how fast moving the Web 2.0 sites model. Aaron highlights how many competitors race to launch a similar web sites that are in direct competition with each other.

It’s good for the consumer because we get added choice and convenience but it could mean that the Web 2.0 web site owners have to settle for a smaller market share.

What are your thoughts?

When Affiliate Programs Go Wrong

Online Scams

How do you truly evaluate a product?

Do you rely entirely on the product owners marketing materials for their affiliates and sales copy or do you make a purchase to make own personal review?

In some cases where you have a merchant who is consistent with producing high quality products such as John Reese you can be sure that the product has been rigorously tested by real people long before being launched to the online community.

In most cases you would be best to purchase the product or if you are in good standing with the merchant you could request a copy for review.

We are human and we can sometimes get it wrong no matter how many cautionary steps we have taken to make a thorough evaluation.

Rosalind Gardner talks candidly about a more than problematic merchant who apparently was not impressed with her critical review. After five months she finally received her commission payment but couldn’t log into her affiliate control panel to check up on statistics.

"UPDATE:

START

Further to a personal interview with the merchant mentioned on Rosalind’s post I have found that as with ALL cases that there are at least TWO sides of the story. Without getting into further debate and cause unnecesary conflict I have to say that this debate has been somewhat blown out of proportion.

For instance, if you use 1Shoppingcart system you will recall last year’s internal problems with tracking and emails. This coupled with a mutual breakdown of communication has fuelled the above case.

I’ve decided to withdraw my initial bad merchant stand and will do my due diligence before contributing to ANY post where controversy or gripes pointing towards a known individual or company. No sides are being taken here but I wanted to add this point rather than just deleting this whole post." END

Rosalind also bashes a number one ranking ClickBank product which has been a topic of controversy and debate over at the Warrior Forum.

Do your due diligence and make regular checks on exactly what you are promoting.
Ask the product owner as many questions as you can think of to get a clearer understanding of a product and read through the terms of your affiliate contract and address any topics of concern.

Looks like we have to be trained undercover FBI agents just to ensure our own integrity when a merchant goes bad or uses deceptive tactics to get people to buy into an idea. :-)

Stay safe online and beware of false promises of riches and the like,

Nancy

Important Policy Changes For All Google AdSense Publishers

I hope that as a fellow Google AdSense publisher that you have read through and understood the most recent updates to the policy guidelines.

It has some issues for those who use images close to ad units, particularly text ads. In addition to serving similar ad units from other networks on the same web page.

I’m not going to repeat the information here but I would advice you to contact Google support to get answers to any concerns you ma have and to further clarify their policy.

I find that some of the best practical advice you can find for free can be found in Google’s official blog. Google do provide lots of handy resources and case studies on which you can model you ad placement to improve your click through rates without jeopardizing your publisher status.

Happy New Year 2007!

Another year has dawned upon us and I personally look forward to an even better prosperous New Year.

May good fortune and new beginnings be bestowed upon you all.

*Some key facts you need to be aware of regarding images and Google AdSense blocks.*

According to feedback from clients using Google’s program they have voiced concerns over the use of images alongside AdSense complaining that it may mislead visitors into associating the image with the ads.

Hmm!

More dilemmas for many people who have found that their click through rates have improved by placing images near AdSense blocks  to help ‘blend’ their ads into their web pages.

Even Joel Comm was caught off guard by this new policy change. Will he be rewriting his best selling book The AdSense Code as a result?

My main concern is will this new clause also include images that link to other ad networks, banners or similar. I have sent presented this question in response to the change. Fortunately the code I had at the footer of my blog with images directly above was removed last summer. But I’m sure there are numerous people who have built content sites with an unlimited amount of images blended with Adsense blocks who will be in uproar because they will HAVE to go into each web page to make these essential modifications.

All I can suggest for now is to be vigilant because this will not be the end of many updates to the AdSense policy for publishers. The very best way to keep abreast with Google’s latest trends is to sign up for their email notifications, Inside AdSense as I have done.

That way you get all of the latest scoop before having to wait on articles from your favorite blogs and web sites.

The Red Factor Viral Video

I wonder if Google would be willing to offer their own image code that is targeted by keywords. Sounds ambitious but it would certainly help to improve the ergonomic design of text based ad formats. They could run beta tests and gather feedback from participating publishers before unleashing the new code to all. Yes I’ve also sent this suggestion to Google so watch this space further information.

You read it here FIRST!

Besides if anyone can do it surely Google can!

PPC Advertising On Amazon Via Clickriver

How would you like to capture a slice of Amazon’s online consumers through pay-per-click ads on their site?

I found an interesting article from Darren Prowse highlighting the company Clickriver who are currently running a beta PPC ad program on Amazon. Unfortunately the program is currently only available to US residents. I hope to see this service opened up to the wider audience so that international advertisers will get an opportunity to participate.

As for now we will have to sit back and wait for the resulting feedback and progress.

This could be another channel for investing PPC advertising in areas other than Google, Yahoo etc. As it is very new those who are participating will have the benefits of being the first to get their message across to Amazon’s ever growing community of online shoppers.

If you are fortunate enough to get into the Clickriver PPC ad program I’d like to hear your results in the near future.

Amazon appears to be branching out with their introduction of AStores and continuing development of the stores for current associate program.

What do you think the chances are that they will raise their commission structure?

Yeah, I know that is wishful thinking. However most of us do shop at Amazon at one time or another. I know I do and find some good bargains from time to time.

Have You Created Your Custom Search Engine Yet?

I’ve been experimenting with the idea of adding Google’s new ‘Customized Search Engine’ feature to my sites. It’s basically a make your own search engine for webmasters allowing you to have more control over the destination sites your visitors find while making searches from your web site.

AdSense publishers can also make money!

Read more about Google’s implementing your own customized search engine from JenSense blog.

It will be interesting to monitor how much AdSense revenue you can earn per click from your search engines. :-)
