After playing catch up with my RSS news reader I read through one of my favorite tech blogs to catch up on what’s new with Web 2.0. To my surprise I found a revealing article on a BRAND NEW INTERNET MARKETING Web 2.0 web site!

At first I though it was a typo error, but it is REAL.

Because I am not subscribed to very few internet marketing marketers I missed out on the launch messages. Thanks to Frank Gruber’s insights I have found a ‘Jewel in the Nile’ here.

When Affiliate Programs Go Wrong

How do you truly evaluate a product?

Do you rely entirely on the product owners marketing materials for their affiliates and sales copy or do you make a purchase to make own personal review?

In some cases where you have a merchant who is consistent with producing high quality products such as John Reese you can be sure that the product has been rigorously tested by real people long before being launched to the online community.

In most cases you would be best to purchase the product or if you are in good standing with the merchant you could request a copy for review.

We are human and we can sometimes get it wrong no matter how many cautionary steps we have taken to make a thorough evaluation.

Rosalind Gardner talks candidly about a more than problematic merchant who apparently was not impressed with her critical review. After five months she finally received her commission payment but couldn’t log into her affiliate control panel to check up on statistics.

Further to a personal interview with the merchant mentioned on Rosalind’s post I have found that as with ALL cases that there are at least TWO sides of the story. Without getting into further debate and cause unnecesary conflict I have to say that this debate has been somewhat blown out of proportion.

For instance, if you use 1Shoppingcart system you will recall last year’s internal problems with tracking and emails. This coupled with a mutual breakdown of communication has fuelled the above case.

I’ve decided to withdraw my initial bad merchant stand and will do my due diligence before contributing to ANY post where controversy or gripes pointing towards a known individual or company. No sides are being taken here but I wanted to add this point rather than just deleting this whole post." END

Rosalind also bashes a number one ranking ClickBank product which has been a topic of controversy and debate over at the Warrior Forum.

Do your due diligence and make regular checks on exactly what you are promoting.
Ask the product owner as many questions as you can think of to get a clearer understanding of a product and read through the terms of your affiliate contract and address any topics of concern.

Looks like we have to be trained undercover FBI agents just to ensure our own integrity when a merchant goes bad or uses deceptive tactics to get people to buy into an idea.

Shaping Up Your Landing Pages For Google Adwords Compliance

It has been brought to my attention that You Tube.com has a very informative video on the subject of the recent changes in Google Adwords policy regarding landing pages. It covers key points leading to Google’s crack down on the degradation of advertising by sites that offer little or no content other than search results or are loaded with Google ads and no content. You can see for yourself some of the sites that Google will be cracking down on in the video.

As with any program you MUST always adhere to the policy guidelines or else face the consequences. However the problems faced by many ordinary advertisers is that changes in policy can be sharp and uncompromising, resulting in higher Adwords rates or being thrown out of Adwords altogether.

If your business as a merchant or affiliate marketer thrives on pay-per-click advertising via Google Adwords you need to educate yourself about how their new policies will affect you.

The last thing anyone wants is an end to their online income or substantial financial losses.

I can understand how the examples portrayed in the video need to be outlawed but there are many people whose sites may be treated harshly according to forum conversations.

If you’re using Google Adwords and use landing pages in order to capture prospects name and email addresses so that you can follow up then you need to be aware of Google’s policy which may hike up the price of advertising for poor performing landing pages.

Of course there is an upside to this dilemma as maybe more Adwords publisher’s will pay close attention to the performance of their landing page and make necessary adjustments and further tests to improve their overall performance. Stays focused and keep an eye on your campaigns to avoid any unnecessary price hikes. Always contact Google direct to voice any of your concerns.

Think carefully about the design and layout of your landing page and get creative. You want to get the most sign ups possible. So give your prospects the sense that they should not click away from your page. A few tips to improve your landing page sign ups:

Experiment with sales letter type page designs
Better impact with screen length landing pages [without having to scroll down your page]
Landscape designs can be more eye catching
Add a brief audio introduction
Add good quality images and an attractive header

Launch Of Google Checkout For Secure Credit Card Payments

There has been much speculation and rumor about the possibility of Google launching a credit card processing service. As of June 29th Google have introduced Google Checkout which you can use in conjunction with your Adwords account and use to shop safely and securely online.

The concept of Google Checkout is similar to the set up Amazon and Ebay [via PayPal] where you enter your payment information, credit card, name, address which is held behind a secure server. You will not need to enter your personal payment information again only to log into your Google Account and submit your payment details.

I’m not entirely convinced that Google Checkout will be as popular as other payment services such as 2Checkout or PayPal. However Google Checkout initially has not been set up to compete with other payment services. Rather to complement their current services to their clients and publishers and enable secure web payments at participating online stores.

There is a lively debate on the subject of Google Checkout at the Warrior Forum. What do you foresee for the Google Checkout service?

Currently Google Checkout is only available to US credit card holders. Read the full terms here.

As I am a UK resident I won’t be able to appreciate use of the service. If you are from the US would you use Google Checkout or are you waiting to see how things turn out with feedback from other uses?

One hurdle Google has is to convince online stores to set up Checkout to implement their service and join the Google Checkout network. This will obviously take some time as Google work with API and HTML coding for buy buttons and other associated integration tools. Once this is in place the service should run streamlessly to enable safe shopping by Google Checkout users.
