Is WordPress 2.6.1 Worth It?

What’s all the fuss about WordPress 2.6.1?

After staying with WordPress 2.3.3 for as long as possible I finally made a pressing decision to update my family of blogs to the WordPress 2.6.1.

The official announcement for the latest stable release currently 2.6.1 does not have any priority security updates. It is one of the usual maintenance updates to fix known bugs so those of you are using version 2.6 there is no immediate need to upgrade.

As usual I dread the possibility of my blog template breaking and showing errors when I attempt to install the latest version of WordPress. Here are some of my tips for a safer upgrade experience.

1. If possible test on a server that is not in use

2. Revert back to one of the “default” themes such as Kubrick or Classic whilst uploading files.

3. Find a reliable and trustworthy script installer to perform the work on your behalf.

4. Use the WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin for easy upgrade without having to download files.

If all else fails and you discover errors in your template you can always revert back to one of the default themes until you an find a solution to the problem.

Thankfully all of my plugins appear to be compatible with WordPress 2.6.1 which is a welcome relief and one of the major reasons why I did not hurry to install previous versions as they became available.

I do really like the “one click” automatic plugin update. What a breath of fresh air!

Now I can just click and the update will run on it’s own deactivates the plugin and uploads the new files, then reactivates itself on autopilot. Sweet!

Now to look into the WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin. Though I’m not entirely convinced that this won’t have some teething problems. If anyone has experience with this plugin I would love to hear from you.

Marlon Sanders - 7 Steps To Promos That Work

7 Steps To Promos That Work

Subtitle: How To Find Your Target Folks, Get ‘em On Your Email
List, Then Send Out Emails That Get ‘em To ACT! …
And What You Can Do Starting Today!

By Marlon Sanders

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The formula for making sales online isn’t particularly
complex.

1.  You find out where you people hang out
2.  You find ways to reach ‘em with your message
3.  You offer ‘em somethin’ free to get ‘em on your list
4.  Capture their name and email on your Squeeze page
5.  You send emails
6.  From emails you send ‘em to multiple conversion processes
7.  Follow the 3 laws

Let’s break this down.

1.  Find out where people hang out.

This means you find the forums they hang out in, the blogs they read,
the sites they go to.

That way, you can do your surveys, run banner ads, and find the
folks who have the lists.

2.  Find ways to reach ‘em with your message.

a.  Find out where you can buy banner ads

How about the forums?  The blogs?  The web sites?

b.  Look for text links too

If you can’t buy banner ads, look for Google AdSense on pages.

c.  Who owns lists and sell products?

You’ll know these people because in their sign line on their
forum posts they’re offering something FREE.  In the article
directories you’ll see their articles. And at the end in the
resource box, they offer somethin’ free — JUST like you
wanna do.

3.  Offer ‘em something free to get ‘em on your list

Give people something so enticing they HAVE to join your
list.

That can be a free audio, ebook, PDF, video or newsletter.
Or anything else that’ll get ‘em on your list.

Run banner ads or AdWords ads offering something free. Come
up with a freebie the folks with lists can send out via an
affiliate link, so a cookie gets set.

Write articles with your freebie in the resource box and
submit those articles to the article directories.

4.  Capture their name and email on your Squeeze page

My friend Jonathan Mizel coined the term Name Squeeze page.
To PROVE he invented the term, he trademarked it.  In case
you’ve mistakenly read someone else invented it.

Anyway, you offer a freebie on a page where folks get the
freebie if they join your email list. Not so complicated
here.

5.  Send emails

This means firing up your autoresponder and loading up
emails.

It means learning to write subject lines, format your emails
and write bullet points that arouse curiosity and get people
to click.

You gotta become a master bullet-point writer.

It also helps if you can spin a good story, just like you do
with your friends over the phone or at the coffee shop.

You mix in value with or between your pitches so your open
rate remains high.  A lot of people make the mistake of watching
their unsubscribes alone.

You gotta monitor your OPEN rate.  That is crucial. It tells you
if you’re getting or losing attention.  This is an attention
economy.

6.  From emails, send ‘em to multiple conversion processes.

In other words, you send an email offering a free video.
The free video gives a pitch for something.

Or you send ‘em to a podcast.

Or you send ‘em to a free report or a sales letter.

Or you send ‘em to live streaming video.

Now, WHAT do you sell?

Initially, sell affiliate products.  Make Camtasia or CamStudio
videos that do your pitches.

Or write pre-sell pages that give a little pitch before you
send people to an affiliate link.  You know, warm ‘em up
first!

WHICH part of this process is the HARDEST for you?  Which
part do you need the most help with?

Hit me back on my blog: http://www.marlonsnews.com

Do you buy into this process?  Or are you following some
other system?  If so, what?

Is this so “old hat” you don’t wanna hear about it anymore?

Or are you STUCK somewhere?

7.  Make an irresistible offer.

So now the person has gone to your audio, video, blog, or
sales letter.

Now you gotta sell ‘em something.

With first time prospects, give ‘em your best offer.
Probably something cheap or free.  Although it depends
on your market.

One of my friends offers a free book then sells a $4,000
software package. When 3% of the people buy it from the
book, the numbers add up.

Others offer a $1 membership offer that goes into recurring
billing after 14 days. That is, after 14 days they’re charged
for the membership site unless they cancel.

And they get charged every month.  When you have 2900 people
getting charged $37 a month, it adds up.

7.  Follow the 3 cardinal laws

a.  Protect your business number one

Follow the law.  Pay your taxes.

b.  Maintain the goodwill of your list

Don’t milk your cow so much he/she dries up.  Offer value to
your list.  Keep that relationship up.

c.  Make sales

What you can do TODAY:  You start with step one.  Go find out where
you target market hangs out at. What blogs do they read? What ezines
do they subscribe to?  What web sites do they go to? What forums do
they frequent?

Then, when you find that out, look for banner ads you can buy, blogs
you can run ads on, text links you can buy, pages with Google ads on
‘em.

And start looking for the folks who have the lists.

Marlon Sanders

P.S.  Here’s what I want you to do:  Go to my blog and tell me if
there’s a step here that hangs you up or you have problems with. Be
as specific as possible:

http://www.marlonsnews.com

Is this all old hat to you?  Too common sense? Do you want something
newer or sexier? Or what’s STOPPING you from following this formula
today?

Here’s the thing:  My new Promo Dashboard will walk you through most
of these steps and much more.

But I NEED to hear from YOU because I need to know WHAT to put in it
to help YOU the most.  I need to hear your feedback on my blog.

Don’t Call Me Dimdim!

Don’t Call Me Dimdim…

Following on from my post on some of the Internet’s popular web based conference rooms. I have another “Meeting Room” resource, Dimdim. Don’t ask me why or how they came up with that name but it does the job.
Currently you can host a 20 people meeting for free. For a larger number of attendees you can upgrade.
Share your Desktop, Power Point presentations, PDF files and more.

“Dimdim Features

Dimdim is easy, affordable and open web collaboration software with a robust set of powerful features that just keeps getting better. Dimdim scales to thousands of meeting attendees, provides up to world class availability and comes in multiple hosted and onsite configurations including downloadable open source and a free hosted version. Dimdim does not require attendees to install any software and is the easiest way to share documents and desktops, chat, talk and view others online.”

Dimdim Advantages

Dimdim Disadvantages

So don’t be fooled by the odd name I’ve used Dimdim and it rocks!

Beside it uses Flash which most people already have installed on their computers and takes up much less bandwidth and CPU speed like than other web based meeting rooms.

Overall Dimdim is a pleasure to work with. Unlike my favorite webinar software HotConference attendees do not have to install software to join scheduled meetings and to gather instant feedback from polls is two features that will greatly enhance Dimdim and make it a more viable choice for online webinar presentations.

Other meeting room software mentioned require downloading large software files which is something I would prefer to steer away from. Especially as many Windows Vista users experienced problems installing HotConference. I found out that they need to take certain steps to right click and select “Run as administrator” to complete installation.

I had reports from attendees that the software didn’t work and of course they missed out on my meeting. Yikes!

7 Ways To Promote New Content On Your Website

7 Ways To Promote New Content On Your Website
by Steve M Nash

Welcome to the never-ending world of website promotion.

Never ending? Well, not only must you promote your site when you first create it, but then you must find ways to continue to promote it.
And you must find ways to promote the site’s new content too.
This article covers seven ways you can promote this new site content. It assumes that you understand the basics of website promotion.

It also assumes that you have already done the following to promote your new content:

* Linked to the new content from your home page, site map, newsletter confirmation page, newsletter welcome message etc.
* Created (and used) a new email signature file
* Written a press release.

You have? Okay, let’s begin.

1) Tell Your E-Mail Subscribers

Tell the subscribers (or customers) on your mailing list about your new site content. This is an easy first step to take to promote a site redesign (or to promote new pages on your site).

Your mailing list is your best opportunity to really go into detail about the new content, especially if this new content benefits your subscribers. (It should, by the way.) If you have built a good relationship with your subscribers they might even tell you how good (or bad) the new content is. Always respond positively to this feedback.

2) Tell Your Friends, Family… Anyone

Tell friends, family and others who are in your address book. Make your email personal, and friendly, and just talk about how the new site content now benefits or involves them.

3) Tell The Newsgroups/Forums

Tell the newsgroups and online forums about your new content.

This strategy works best if you are a regular contributor to the forum or newsgroup, and if you refer to the content as part of the forum post (rather than just in the signature file). However, as long as you demonstrate your expertise with your forum contributions, and the new content is relevant, you should get visitors curious to find out more.

Again, if you focus on benefits you have a much better chance of people visiting your site.

4) Tell The Social Networks

The major search engines will find your new content as long as you link to it via your site map, and you link to this site map from your home page. Do that, then ignore the search engines.

Instead, focus on building buzz at the so-called social networking sites like digg.com, del.icio.us and Myspace.

You can encourage social bookmarking by adding appropriate bookmarking links on your site. (You’ll find such ‘add to del.icio.us’ buttons etc. on various blogs or websites or by visiting http://www.AddThis.com .)

However, if your content is outrageous or funny or particularly informative then, chances are, your new content will find its way onto these high-traffic websites anyway. It doesn’t harm to encourage this process, though.

5) Find Other Promotion Sources

Social networking sites are not the only way to promote your site.

For example, webmaster resource sites, freebie sites, and even Britney Spears and Harry Potter fanclub sites may all quite like to know about your new site content, if relevant. Whatever your site is about, there’s a site resource dedicated to it.

Use your imagination, and do a search on Google.

6) Write An Article

Writing articles is a proven method of promoting new content. And there are so many sites willing to accept well-written articles.

You don’t think you know how to write an article? Just write about what you know or do. It isn’t that difficult, and writing articles can generate lots of website traffic. To learn more, either do a search for “how to write an article” at Google or at EzineArticles.com .

7) Don’t Forget Pay-Per-Click Search Engines

Using pay-per-click (PPC) search engines is an ideal way to promote new site content.

You can either add more keywords to a current PPC campaign, driving visitors to your new pages, or you can start a new PPC campaign.

Either way, you should have traffic visiting your new content in a matter of days (or immediately, if you use Google AdWords).

These are the most popular pay-per-click search engines:

- Google Adwords

- Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture)

- MSN Adcenter

That’s it, seven ways to promote new content on your website.

As I say, website promotion is never-ending; there are always more ways of promoting your site’s new content. Just make sure you do something to get people to visit your new web pages, eh!

Steve M Nash is owner of several sites including http://www.textmefree.com - a directory of free sms text messaging sites, and guide to bulk sms marketing. He promotes all of them using the basic principles and tips detailed in his free website promotion guide, http://www.howipromotemywebsite.com

Free Website Traffic and Earn Income From Daily Rebates!

Ad Surf Daily Generates Free Website Traffic

Ad Blindness

I’m sure you may be aware that it takes about 7 times or more for your ad to be absorbed by prospects. Well in my case I normally take the advice of my work colleagues who may have had prior experience with any particular program or product.

Now when I mention the words friends and colleagues I’m referring to people I am in regular contact with who share ideas and tips amongst each other. This is TRUE networking. Whereas with some people I only hear from them when they want to SELL ME SOMETHING. No explanations no HELLO or how are you today? JUST COLD HARD SELL!

That’s why it has taken about 5 times before I even considered one particular program. When you have friends that really research a program and have tested it out BEFORE announcing it to you is when you know people have your best interests in mind.

This is what is called true “LEVERAGE”. The same courtesy should be afforded to people who have subscribed to your mailing list and newsletters. Be sure you have reputable and trusted sources before considering endorsing a product or service.

Now we are all human and sometimes something doesn’t go as planned for a number of reasons. However at the very least test out a service and see if it can benefit you and your business.

Anyway with that said I want to share a website that allows you to surf for traffic to earn credits towards views to your assigned websites. It is similar to the way in which Traffic Swarm works. There is one main difference and that is if you decide to purchase advertising credits you can earn a residual income of 25% of your initial ad purchase.

Now most people are interested in driving more traffic to their website and Ad Surf Daily does just this for you. It is easy to register a free account and set up your websites. I recommend using a web page rotator such as Page Swirl or BizRotator so that you can easily manage multiple websites and keep track of statistics to.

Without tracking you have no clear way to evaluate results of your advertising campaigns. These resources are free to use so there is no excuse not to use them regularly.

Anyway I highly recommend Ad Surf Daily. You have the option of purchasing ad credits to boost views to your websites and can invite people you know to join too. I suggest using social networks to refer others. You can view some of the networks I am a member of here. Just remember to network with people and DO NOT just blast your latest opportunity to them. A signature fle under your name should suffice especially in forums.

These forums accept blatant ads. Participation is high so YOU MUST make your ad stand out and post REGULARLY.

What Does Your Taste in Music Say About You?

BlogThings is a free quiz website with lots more fun topics to choose from. Thanks to Pamela Heywood my day got started off with fun as I took the multiple choice quiz.

BlogThings allows you to add the code (copy and paste) to your blog or simply place a direct link from your blog so people can check out the site for themselves.

Or add BlogThings to your MySpace and Facebook profiles.

Well I let it rip and took the quick quiz and this is my results:-

“Your musical tastes are intense and rebellious.
You are intelligent… but in a very unconventional way.

You are curious about the world. You love doing something new.
In fact, you enjoy taking risks and doing things most people would shy away from.

You are very physical. It’s likely that you’re athletic, but not into team sports.
You have the soul of an artist. Beauty and harmony are important to you.”

Looks as though I better calm down as I may need to undergo psychological evaluation.   Though I have been known to inflict my “crazy humor” on friends and family. Ask my two boys!

What do you think? Does having a Linkin Park plugin on Facebook, watching Robin Williams videos on YouTube and Richard Branson sound like an average person to you?

Well I am sane (I think ) I just have wide interests but most of all I love life!

How to Use Teleseminars to Promote Your Business and Generate Quick Cash

“How to Use Teleseminars to Promote Your Business and Generate Quick Cash”
by Alexandria K. Brown

Can I share a secret with you?

Teleseminars are some of the easiest money I’ve ever made.

Chances are you’ve attended a Teleseminar lately. Why not produce them yourself? These seminars by phone are fun and easy to do.

Giving FREE teleseminars is a fabulous way to promote your business, help your prospects get to know you better, increase your e-zine subscribers, and jack-up sales. For the first few years of my Ezine Queen business, I offered a free monthly teleseminar that gave people an introduction to what I teach (how to get business via an e-zine). These calls generated me tons of new e-zine subscribers and sales for my home study courses.

Giving PAID teleseminars promotes your business and generates revenues as well. I do one paid teleseminar at least every two months on a different marketing topic, and sometimes I invite a special guest. Even when I just started out, each of these events would gross me between $5,000 and $10,000.

You should also consider offering an “intensive” or “bootcamp” series of multi-week teleseminars. You can break up aspects of one topic or do a series on multiple, related topics. My former “4-Week E-zine Launch Telebootcamps” went for $497 and sold out every time.

To get started, you’ll need:

1. a bridge line. For less than 50 people, FreeConference.com has worked fine for me. (Yes, it’s FREE.) For more people or for paid events, I use a paid line such as from Black & White Communications, because they come with personal service and an operator if anything goes wrong.

2. an automated way for people to sign up. I use, LOVE, and wholeheartedly recommend 1ShoppingCart. It’s an online shopping cart program that comes complete with e-mail autoresponders and link tracking. It also lets you do coupon offers for special groups, and you can automatically track commissions for affiliates.

3. a way to record your teleseminars. You’ll want to provide the audio for people to listen to later online or you can make CDs. Record yourself with inexpensive software like Sony’s “Sound Forge Studio”, or hire someone to do it for you. I use both www.AudioStrategies.com and Audio Acrobat.

But there’s a LOT more to it…

How do you get signups, especially if you have a small list?
Where can you advertise your teleseminars?
What days and times will get you more people?
How much should you charge?
How can you get expert guests on your calls for free?
How should you prepare handouts and visuals?
Do people really want CDs, or are they happy with online audio?
WHERE do you start?

To learn MY step-by-step formula for producing teleseminars that REALLY make you money, come to my next Online Success Blueprint Workshop. Along with teaching my entire internet marketing strategy, I go through my personal teleseminar processes in detail!

================================================

Looking into Teleseminar services can be a daunting process. My dilemma is whether to use a call in system via telephone, either telephone and Webinar presentation or web based Webinar.

As I am on several mailing lists I find that Teleseminars require phone charges and it is not uncommon for Teleseminars to run up to 1 hour or more. Being based in London, UK I tend to opt for Web based conferences that incur ZERO costs. I already have high speed broadband Internet access so I can easily participate and listen in using my headphones. The added benefits are with both hands free I can easily type notes whilst on the conference.

Amusing Story

Let me tell you a funny story about my first experience with my very first GoToMeeting conference. I registered for the call promptly via email and had the access telephone number and Webinar software link. Logged in and had my headphone on as usual but wondered why the heck I couldn’t hear the presentation. Now granted this was a long time ago now. I was totally unaware that I HAD TO CALL IN to hear the presentation. :???: By the time I realized this I thought well is it really practical to ring now that the call was nearly over. With GoToWebinar, even the local UK number toll number which is a 0870 number costs a minimum of double my normal phone charges per minute.

Now I am a great lover of LIVE conferences but find the added inconvenience a nuance. So if offered I opt for the recorded call. Sometimes this has been the best choice as I have found the call isn’t something I would be interested in. Besides the late call times can be a a test of endurance as in the UK we are at least +5hrs US EST and a +7 hrs US CST. Even more trying for Australia/Malaysia where there is 12 hr time difference. Yet I have heard from people from these countries area attending calls. Now that’s dedication!

Top Tip

Take a nap during the day and avoid trying to stay up until the early hours of the morning because you know you’ll be light headed and much less attentive.

Anyway here are a few options for Teleseminars:-

1. GoToMeeting

2. Instant Teleseminar

5. HotConference

WordPress 2.5 Logo

$44 per month
$1.00 30 day trial offer for the 5 room conference normally $54.95 per month.

Host up to 500 seats per room
Live audio and visual conferencing solutions

To use HotConference you need to share your download conference file with attendees and they can save to their desktop and log in with their name and password [if set] at the start of the Webinar.
Very easy to use and has the benefits of an attractive whiteboard, highlighter and many more features.

I personally use this software as I get a free room from my web host kiosk who also created HotConference can always upgrade to a 500 seated room as and when needed.
Unlike VereConference attendees just double click on the icon and log in.

Visit HotConference.

Free Teleseminars

Phone in conference calls appear to be highly popular. They are easy to set up and use and you can give an overview or conduct and interview with a guest whilst callers listen in.
Drawbacks are people will have phone to pay for the phone charges and may be calling from international location so for them long distance charges will apply. However most Teleseminar hosts will usually offer a recording of the call for convenience.

Attending a LIVE call is always beneficiary especially if there are special time sensitive announcements or offers valid during or just after the conference. You also have the added benefit of being able to ask questions or submit feedback whilst listening in on the call.

Some Alternatives

For alternatives to Teleseminars as listed above you could consider free online services like Blog Talk Radio and UStreme TV (as used by Russell Brunson). Blog Talk Radio is just one example of how you can run your very own LIVE online radio show. With UStreme TV you can connect to a webcam and broadcast yourself LIVE to your audience. Both services allow your guests to enter questions and feedback via text chat.

So there you are some free and paid services you can use to host a conference or meeting.

If you have tried any of these services or would like to share your own resources feel free to add your comments. You can also bookmark this article and show your appreciation on Digg and other services using the “ShareThis” and “Share and Bookmark” links below.

P.S.
Update 26th May 2008

Known Issues with Vista Operating Systems For HotConference Installation

After downloading the software and saving it ti your DESKTOP DO NOT double click on the icon. Instead RIGHT CLICK your mouse and select “INSTALL AS ADMINISTRATOR”. This should enable Windows Vista users to log in successfully.

ThinkHost Web Hosting Coupon Deal

There’s a $20 discount coupon available for you to take advantage of for trying out ThinkHost web hosting service. The code for that is THINKHOST20

ThinkHost also have a very lucrative two-tiered affiliate program you may want to sign up for here. Earn $100 per referral and up to $65 on affiliate partner referrals.

You should also take a look at some other web hosts I have used and recommend.

Make sure you write down what features you need for your web hosting needs. If you are going to run PHP or MySql dependant scripts check the versions offered by your web host to ensure compatibility. Some web hosts will make special exceptions and allow certain tweaks in functionality like installing ion cube loader to your server so that you can run scripts with relative ease.

Know what you want and get what you need before committing to any web hosting service. I know I’ve had my fair share of disappointments with performance and the downtime in the past. However I am happily using Mike Filsaime’s recommendation, Kiosk Hosting.

Good luck all,

Nancy P Redford
