I wonder how many past owners will react to this turnaround. People do get disgruntled if they feel they’ve been misled or dare I say it scammed, a word used too often for just about any trivial matter. Anyway owners like myself who have found value in our purchase and have put the knowledge to use will of course not be affected.
I’m keeping an eye on the next update to the Quit Your Day Job book which Jeremy has announced will also be made available for free.
And I thought the commotion to get Camtasia Studio for free was a hoax at first. I wonder who else will be giving away their most treasured and popular products this year!

Wait that’s not all because Harvey has rewritten and somehow improved on another top downloaded ebook - Super Tips.
Harvey also revealed that he has inserted a ‘Magic Button’ inside the book that will take you to a page where you meet a new amazing twist at the very end.
I’ve just downloaded the latest PDF version (available as a Windows executable file or exe) so I’ guess I’ll find the Magic Button and take the next step myself. I just don’t want to spill it for you guys. :lol:
Yikes! that reminds me to get cracking with revisions to my own free ebooks. I’m still trying to decide whether to use a sign up form to keep in touch with visitors so that I can provide future updates with ease or to use a Tell a Friend script to invite them, and YOU, to share the free ebook link with others.
I would really appreciate your thoughts on what method I should use. Harvey uses a combination of the two. Previously I have used an opt-in form but I know people do get suspicious and may be deterred from going ahead to get their free ebook download link.

Ah, working at home… Visions of leisurely days, conference calls in comfy sweatpants, increased productivity with fewer interruptions. But the distinctions between work life and home life soon blur. You really should throw some laundry in the wash before you write that proposal. You have an hour before a meeting: Should you balance your books or clean the kitchen? And remember to call that client back right after you empty the cat box.
Welcome to the real world of working at home: unforeseen distractions, a lack of structured time, and sometimes a perceived loss of identity. But don’t give up the dream just yet! By putting into place a few simple ideas, you can reap more of the rewards of working at home. Based on my experiences and those of my clients, here are 10 simple ways to help you stay on track.
1. Separate Your Space.
Keep a separate, distinct work area in your home. Very important. (This is especially difficult if you’re living and working in a shoebox apartment, like I was when I started my business in New York City!) If you don’t have a separate room, at least define an area, and know that when you’re in it, you’re in “work mode.”
2. Structure Your Time.
As your business and personal time mesh, it’s more important than ever to structure your day. For example, if you regularly take a walk or go to the gym, try to do it every day at the same time. Value that personal appointment with yourself — even when you’re very busy. It will actually help you keep your business on track! I like to get up early and work until 1 pm, then I take a few hours off to enjoy lunch and go to the gym or jog on the beach. Then I’m back at my desk at 5:00 until who knows when!
3. Outsource All You Can.
When I began my business, I made the mistake of doing all my own administrative work. Whenever you start thinking, “Well I can just do that myself,” STOP. Streamline your business, making everything as automatic as possible. Use outside services to stay focused on your *real work*. Get accounts with an overnight delivery service, messenger service, bookkeeper, etc. Save your energy for your brilliant ideas! 4. Use Technology to Your Advantage.
In-person meetings are very valuable when appropriate, but schedule them sparingly. Try to do most of your business via phone, fax, and e-mail using the best equipment you can afford. For most home-based entrepreneurs, when you’re out of the office, you’re NOT making money. So it’s important that you can communicate flawlessly from where you are. PLEASE do us all a favor and get separate lines/services for your phone, fax, and Internet! No one likes getting a busy signal.
Get separate phone numbers for business calls and personal calls, or ask your phone company about getting “distinctive ring”. Also, voicemail is better than an answering machine, because if you’re on an important call and don’t want to be disturbed, other callers can still leave you a message.
5. Group Your Errands.
Try to group your meetings and errands together to minimize your out-of-office time. Make a list in the morning of all the outside tasks you need done for the day, and attempt to complete them in one fell swoop. Even better, do what I do and designate just one day a week as your “blitz” day for errands and meetings. Plus, then you only need to get dressed up one day a week! : )
6. Stay Focused.
Make your workspace off-limits to other roommates or family members when you’re working. For you animal lovers, this may go for pets as well. (My cat Francine gets jealous when I’m not giving her complete attention!) Keep all personal paperwork such as bills, magazines, and to-do lists out of sight, so they won’t distract you from your projects.
7. Beware of Yappers.
Many of your friends and family will be immediately delighted when they learn that you’re working at home. They picture you lounging on the couch, eating potato chips, and waiting for their calls. When they call you simply to chat, politely remind them that you’re working, and ask them if you can call them back after your day is over. It may take them a while, but they’ll eventually get the idea.
8. Work With Your Moods.
Keep track of your moods and productivity compared with the time of day. For example, if you find you’re more alert in the morning, use this time to make important calls and do your creative work. Take advantage of your natural cycles. If you feel better after an afternoon nap, go for it! (I’m a BIG proponent of the catnap. In fact, I may start a support group.)
9. Suit Yourself.
To bring out your best work, make your environment perfect for YOU. How do you work best? With plenty of breaks, or with no interruptions? In silence, or with some light music in the background? On a cushy couch and coffee table, or at a business desk in an ergonomic chair? (My friends thought I was nuts when I spent $750 on my Herman Miller Aeron chair, but they quickly understood why once they sat in it! And my spine thanks me every day.)
Also, find some places you can do work when you need a change of scenery. How about the library, the park, or your neighborhood coffee shop? When I need to do serious reading, thinking, or editing, I take my work outside to the pool or the beach. The sea air, sunshine, and soothing waves help me think much more clearly.
10. Break for People.
Feeling sluggish, lonely, or moody? Arrange for at least one social break during the week. (I aim for two or three.) Schedule breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just coffee with a client, vendor, or friend. Join a business networking group, or sign-up for social activities such as dance class or recreational sports league. Don’t go into hermit mode — it can be self-destructive!

When you join various Social Networks such as WireFan mentioned in the above articles or FaceBook, LinkedIn and others, think about how you can help other first before you head off in the wrong direction trying to sell, sell, sell to people you haven’t even bothered to establish a relationship with.

Our Top WordPress Plugins
I’ve been meaning to write up about the WordPress plugins I use for my blogs for some time now. Well this is another task from ‘things to do’ that I can mark off for today. 
AdRotator
AdRotator wil rotate any size banners to display one at a time each time page is loaded. Currently used in our header file.
AdSense Deluxe
AdSense Deluxe allows you to insert code into your posts from a drop down menu button on the edit post page conveniently positioned below the default WordPress edit buttons. Use the ‘Options’ in your admin panel to cut and paste your own collection of AdSense Codes, giving them a name and description for easy reference. Once this is set up you can use the drop down menu to insert AdSense ads anywhere you desire in your posts.
Askimet
To use Askimet you just need an API key which you can get free from WordPress.com. This captures the time almost all incoming Spam message dead in its track. On a few occasions REAL comments may accidentally end up in the Spam list, however you can ‘Select’ and click on the ‘De-spam marked comments’ button to send misdirected valid comments to your moderated comments list. Life would be another thousand more clicks a week or more of manually deleting Spam WITHOUT Askimet!
Bumpzee
Adds the Bumpzee widget to your blog with your unique Bumpzee code. You can see mine located at the footer/end of this blog.
FeedBurner FeedSmith
Now managed by Google and originally created by Steve Smith. This plugin will automatically redirect your default RSS feeds to your FeedBurner feed URL. So you will not lose any of your valuable subscribers. This is another gem of a plugin I don’t think I could live without.
Get Recent Comments
With this plugin you can display the most recent comments or trackbacks on you blog.
Google XML Sitemaps
A simple and practical way to build a ’search engine friendly’ sitemap for your blog. Currently supports Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. Updates automatically after new posts are published.
Got Banners
Got Banners is a simple plugin for rotating banners such as the popular 125 x 125 pixel banners on your site displaying a series of banners that make random changes in disdplay order with each page view. Helps to combat ad blindness as the ads appear in different places and grab your attention in the process.
Jerome’s Keywords
Easily add essential keywords to each blog post. You can also use this plugin to create tag clouds, meta tags, site tags or make create Technorati tags.
ShareThis
An easy way for your visitors to ‘share‘ your posts with others by posting to social bookmarking sites and sends your post to a friend via email.
Simple Yearly Archive
As the title suggests the Simple Yearly Archive plugin will lists your archives by year. Ideally I would prefer to use Compact Monthly Archive for its ergonomic user-friendly format which looks so INCREDIBLY well organized down at ProBlogger. Hat’s off to the programmer for creating such a cool streamlined plugin.
Sociable
Adds social bookmarking icons below each post for people to share with others.
Subscribe To Comments
Allows one click subscription to comments on any particular post by sending you an email announcement whenever additional comments are made. Once installed and activates you don’t have to do anything. Very good for people who do not want to subscribe to comments through a feed and can access exact posts that are of personal interest to them.
What Would Seth Godin Do
Built on the principles of Seth Godin’s ideas to use cookies to distinguish between new and returning visitors to your site. A customized welcome message is shown to new visitors based on their cookie inviting them to subscribe to your RSS feed an email updates. A great way to get a High Profile A-List Blogger to check you out!
WP Grins
Adds fun smilies to your post with just one click. After activating this plugin you’ll find a variety of smilies in a row just under your edit screen. Smilies also appear on the comments section for your use by your visitors who leave a comment.
OnlyWire AutoSubmitter
I’ve saved the best for last!
I regularly use OnlyWire to submit to Social Bookmarking sites and wondered if there was a better way. So I did a quick search and found this genius plugin which will automatically login and submit to my OnlyWire account for each post I publish. OnlyWire Auto Submitter should save me a lot of time posting to 22 social bookmarking sites. This is a new addition to my currently plugin inventory so I need to personally test it out to check if it really does submit to OnlyWire with little or no problems. If anyone else has used this plugin your feeback would be appreciated.
WordPress 2.0+ Benefits
WordPress has grown up and finally taken into account the changing face of the Web 2.0 and widget mania. With an abundance of widget themes being designed and the amazing value all for free from programmers and the help from people at the WordPress Community Forums who provide mostly lightening fast responses to any problems you may come across.
Many blogger’s have revamped their blogs with a huge preference for wider layout, wigetized sidebars making adding images, link etc a breeze. No more searching through code to edit your template anymore which is the surest ways to screw things up if you forget to save the original unedited PHP files.
Arggggh no more!
WordPress have developed the 2.0+ series to incorporate ‘tags’ into the default script which they have taken from Jerome’s Keywords .
Remember they do not get paid per download unless on the rare occasion the plugin requires pre-purchase. Whereas the majority of WordPress plugins are completely free to use. Donations and tips are present on the download sites but I wonder how many of us have given a contribution to express our appreciation for the benefits they have given us through their hard work!
I have noted that some plgins once installed display a ‘Reward the Author’ link when you go to view or edit from the admin panel.

Yikes!
This would be just as difficult and cumbersome as going into admin and manually changing every post to a redirect in my HTACCESS file. The result of which would seriously slow down my sites page load times. Imagine making just one typo error, my whole domain would go down. For those who don’t know, just one mistake or missed typed url (htp:// instead of http://) URL or character in a HTACCESS file can bring your whole site OFFLINE.
Now with WordPress version 2.2+ redirection of changed Permalinks is BUILT-IN to the blogging software.
Phew!
This new feature came just in time as not too long ago I changed my Permalink structure (during November 2007) from the default setting to POSTID and POSTNAME.

Using the default Permalinks structure your potential web site visitors have absolutely no clue as to what the article content would entail so after considerable thought I elected the postname and post number.
I know many people have opted to use “Postname” only Permalinks for their WordPress blogs but after reading the literature from the codex:
Using only %postname%
“If you use postname as the only element in your permalinks to create a structure such as example.com/post-title, the rewrite rules may make it impossible to access pages such as your stylesheet (which has a similar format) or the /wp-admin/ folder [is this true in Wordpress 2.0+ versions?]. It’s best to include some numeric data (e.g. the post ID or date) in the permalink to prevent this from happening. Additionally, WordPress v1.2.x requires the use of a date structure in order for some features, such as the calendar, to function properly. /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ is always a good start.”

I just didn’t want to tempt fate. Best to be safe than sorry in a few months time or so!
WordPress Database BackUp
I just log into my web hosting account to use CPanel and quickly back up all of my databases for WordPress and other scripts now so I am not going to install this plugin. I know that after Skippy moved away from WordPress to other venture there has is a new plugin, BackUpWordPress.
Conclusion
Overall I’m glad I chose WordPress as a blogging platform but this hasn’t always been the case. With past upgrade issues and having to remove so many plugins due to compatibility issues or the authors leaving ship as they have had enough from the barrage of upgrades, theme break issues to name a few. Well I’ve done my fair share of cursing the day I installed a blog let alone several blogs I and my family use. However I do appreciate the automatic updates that appear in admin to let you know about the latest version of any plugin.
I haven’t personally tried this yet but I will for the next upgrade. At least that way there shouldn’t be too much disruption to site visitors. But as you already know with upgrading you never know what may happen!!
Take good note of the few listed plugins that are compatible with each other, in other words, when they are both activated there will be problems. Deleted old files that are no longer compatible or I don’t any more. It has been known that old or obsolete version of WordPress could make your blog or site vulnerable open to hacker acttacks.

Top 7 Ways to Improve Your Site Traffic
Keep Content Fresh - New content is a great way to keep visitors coming back. Search engines also rank sites with fresh content higher. Keeping an active blog is a great way to keep your site new and fresh.
Keep it Simple - Visitors should be able to easily look around your site. If visitors are frustrated and can’t find what they are looking for, they are likely to leave quickly and never come back or recommend your site to others.
Help Visitors Contact You - Make it simple for visitors to reach you if they want. Include a guestbook or blog where they can post questions. Add a “contact me” form where they can submit questions to you via email.
Use Descriptive File Names - Use descriptive keywords as names for the files (e.g., pictures, videos) on your site. This will help your site appear more with search engines - especially through things like Google Image Search.
Create Links - Getting links to your site from other websites will help generate more traffic and improve your placement in search engines. Are you looking for more ways to advertise to help improve current ad strategies?
GimmeLinks ‘SILENT ADVERTISING’, resembles Chitika’s text and image design but has links to business opportunities and websites. Whereas Chitika contains links to products and shopping sites.
One flaw I have seen is that some of the image quality is lost and distorted on the ad block itself. This is most likely due to incorrect formatting and resizing of images by advertisers before submitting their image ads. The concept appears to be innovative as it does draw your eye and arouse curiosity without being too intrusive or annoying to your visitors. Much like other ads blocks you can easily insert the ad blocks amongst you content to design your own banners to attract new users to sign up to the service.
As an affiliate you can place GimmeLink ads on your web site a commission on every ad shown and for ads placed by sign ups. Another free service that can add to the affiliate bank! 
Low click credits will not exactly make you big earner as they average about 2 cents per click. However as with most programs the largest commission share is for new advertiser whereby you can earn 25% on paid ads. As stated on the GimmeLink Frequently Asked Question web page.
